Paikkasidonnainen väliaikainen ympäristötaideteos Ruunalassa, Somerolla tien 52 varrella. Jokioistentie 65-75, 31400 Somero. Teos toteutettiin kolmen kuukauden työskentelyn aikana tyhjälle peltotontille teollisuusalueella, ja se osallisti lähialueiden asukkaita.

Pellolta katsottuna aika hahmottuu paitsi muuttuvana kasvustona, muuttuvina väreinä, myös ohikulkevana liikenteenä. Kun keskittyy katsomaan tien 52 suuntaisen punamullan värisen aaltopeltisen tehdashallin seinää, voi auringonlaskun aikana laskea, että tietyllä aikavälillä joka kolmas, sitten kuudes aallonharjanne on sitruunankeltainen. Seuraavalla valon ja värin intervallilla muutos tapahtuu mustalla, vaaleammalla sitruunankeltaisella ja punaisella. Maiseman ääniin liittyy mopon etäinen pärinä ja vaihtelevasti jonkun auton tuunatun moottorin huuto.
Taideteoksen voisi yleisesti ajatella olevan tietynlainen resepti, eräänlainen muunnelma konventioiden maailmasta. Tai kartta johon täydennetään jatkuvasti muutoksia ja sattumanvaraisuuksia. Tämän teoksen ainekset ovat pelto, tie, purettu köysi, luonnolliset ja synteettiset väripigmentit, 4x4 tolpat, kuminpolttamat kuviot asfaltissa, vauhtihullut, liikaa ja liian vähän aikaa.

Site-specific environmental art work (2020) in Ruunala, Somero by the main road 52; Jokioistentie 65-75. The piece was built over three months of observation in the field lot and its surroundings, engaging locals.

Looking from the perspective of the field, time is intrinsic in the changing
vegetation, its colors and in the rhythm of the passing traffic. Next to the field,
facing the main road 52 there’s a red ochre coloured corrugated iron garage. If
you focus on the exterior walls of the garage at sunset, you can count that every
sixth, then every third wave crest is lemon yellow. The next interval of light and
color the change occurs between black, brighter lemon yellow and red.
Sporadically, the surrounding soundscape is accompanied by the rolling of a
moped and someones tuned engine revving up. An artwork can be seen as recipe,
a kind of a variation of the world of conventions. Or a map that is constantly
updated by the surrounding changes and haphazard happenings. The
ingredients of this work are: a field, a road, gathered materials, dismantled rope,
natural and synthetic colour pigment, 4 by 4 posts, rubber-burned patterns on
asphalt, petrol heads, too much and too little time.

Ruunala alueena on suosittu mopojen ja kuminpolttajien kokoontumispaikka. Pyysin heitä osallistumaan teokseen. Kuvataiteilija Anne Turkulaisen vetämä tekstiiliryhmä osallistui tekemällä mopoilijoiden asut. Teokseen osallistui paikallisia jalankulkijoita mustissa, he kävelivät halki teosta luoden teokseen oman kerrostumansa.
As an area Ruunala is popular among moped drivers and rubber burners. I asked them to partake in a performance. A textile group lead by the artist Anne Turkulainen made the costumes. Another layer was played by pedestrians wearing black, who walked inside the piece during the performance.
